Welcoming State Opera South Australia as an Associate member of the Committee for Adelaide, as nominated by Platinum member Fleet Space Technologies.
State Opera South Australia was established in 1976 by an Act of Parliament building a remarkable reputation for presenting world-class opera in South Australia, across the nation and internationally.
Under the Leadership of Artistic Director Dane Lam and Executive Director Mark Taylor, the company is making its mark again on the world stage including two co-productions with Opera Hong Kong, the opening of The Magic Flute in the Beijing Music Festival in October 2026, and a new Missi Mizzoli commission opening the Edinburgh International Festival this year.
In 2026, the company commemorates its Golden Jubilee 50TH Anniversary, with a wide-ranging selection of programming ranging from an opera for babies through to new, locally developed and built productions of La Cenerentola (Cinderella), Hansel & Gretel and Carmen.
State Opera has brought countless conductors and singers to Adelaide, but also provided opportunity to South Australian based creatives, artists and arts workers on an annual basis allowing them to live in this great state doing what they love. Many, off the back of experience gained with State Opera have travelled abroad to hone their skills.
“State Opera South Australia is thrilled to be able to join in our Golden Jubilee Year in 2026 where we have a huge range of productions and projects that really validate our guiding principle of ‘World Class Opera – Made in South Australia’.” – Mark Taylor, Executive Director, State Opera South Australia.
“Adelaide is at its best when science and art collide. Norma in the Cosmos was proof of that, and it’s why we nominated State Opera for the Committee for Adelaide.” — Matt Pearson, Co-Founder, Fleet Space Technologies.
