With bicycle sales booming locally and pop up bicycle lanes appearing across the globe as people take to ebikes, scooters and other modes of transport to avoid public transport during COVID-19, we’re joining a chorus of voices calling for a focus on safe and extensive bike and walking infrastructure.
More than 100 health and transport experts as well as organisations such as the Committee for Sydney, the Heart Foundation and others have signed an open letter on the issue.
While Adelaide is blessed with open spaces and hasn’t quite faced the squeeze of other cities during COVID-19, alternative forms of transport are part of our vision for Adelaide and are receiving more focus as cars stay parked and pollution begins to clear up over heavily populated cities.
