It was great to meet with our committee for city and region network colleagues from Australia and New Zealand earlier this month and discuss issues around skills shortages, global trade and the future of cities with Minister for Immigration Alex Hawke MP, Urbis and the Asia Society. Thank you to the Committee for Melbourne for hosting.
As a result of our meeting the network has renewed its call for a consistent & collaborative approach across local, state and national jurisdictions to help our cities and regions return to the vibrant & safe places we have come to expect.
COVID-19 has thrown into sharp focus the importance of structural reforms to underpin sustained economic recovery in priority physical and social infrastructure sectors. These include the creation of a renewable and circular economy, social & affordable housing, optimal population distribution & growth, skilled migration to support innovation & the economy, diversification of export markets and better coordination between cities and regions.
