ADL2050 Vision Workshop: Art & Culture at the Centre of Everything

Arts and culture have long defined Adelaide’s identity, shaping how people experience the city, connect with one another, and engage with the places around them. As Adelaide continues to grow and evolve, there is a clear opportunity to move beyond a focus on major events and embed creativity into the everyday fabric of city life.

To explore this, the Committee for Adelaide, in partnership with JPE Design Studio, recently hosted the first of the ADL2050 Vision Workshops. This session brought together leaders from across design, education, industry and the creative sectors to consider what it would look like to place arts, culture and design at the centre of city-making.

Through design-led thinking and facilitated discussion, participants were challenged to reimagine Adelaide in 2050. Conversations focused on how changing demographics, urban density, new technologies, climate pressures and cost of living are reshaping how people access and experience culture.

Key questions guided the session:

  • What does a city look like where art and culture are embedded in everything?
  • Would our decisions change if we designed our city with creativity at the centre?
  • How are artists and creatives supported and valued?

The workshop combined provocation with practical thinking, encouraging participants to identify both opportunities and constraints. Insights from this session will contribute to a long-term vision for Adelaide and 50 priority actions to help shape Adelaide’s future.

This workshop marks the beginning of a broader ADL2050 Vision series, which will continue to bring together diverse voices to explore the challenges and opportunities facing Adelaide.

The Committee for Adelaide extends its thanks to JPE Design Studio for hosting and supporting this important conversation.
