The Committee for Adelaide, with the support of Thomson Geer and the Commissioner for Children and Young People (CCYP), invites members to an engaging Thought Leadership Conversation – Education to Employment: Giving all South Aussies a fair go.
We will explore the latest report from the South Australian Productivity Commission, ‘Positioning All South Australians to Share in the Benefits of Economic Growth’ and how we can collectively give young people the skills and support they need to successfully transition out of school and into meaningful education and employment.
This report highlights the challenges facing young people in Adelaide and South Australia more broadly. South Australia has one of the highest rates of long-term unemployment in the country, with youth making up a disproportionate 43% of the long-term unemployed, nearly double the national average.
Alarmingly, around 48,000 young South Australians are either not engaged or only partially engaged in education, training, or employment. Addressing the barriers facing young South Australians, the report proposes bold reforms and solutions to reduce the rate of long-term youth disengagement and deliver better outcomes for all South Australians.
Hear from Adrian Tembel, Chair of the South Australian Productivity Commission for his thoughts and insights on the report, followed by an engaging panel conversation with Mimi Crowe, Acting Commissioner for Children and Young People (CCYP) and Zane Le Blond, Chair of the Ministers Youth Advisory Council (YMAC).
We thank our event partners, Thomson Geer and the Commissioner for Children and Young People, for their ongoing support of these important conversations. We also extend our thanks to our wine partner, Hentley Farm, for their continued support at our events.
