Adelaide Abroad connecting our city to the world
A new program to link the globe with South Australia and help people settle in Adelaide has been launched by the Committee for Adelaide.
Adelaide Abroad aims to connect with people who are newly arrived or live abroad with an interest in Adelaide, linking them with individuals and organisations that can help explain employment opportunities and connect with people who have gone through similar experiences.
“This is about growing our population, creating new business and investment opportunities, creating a new narrative for the State and tapping into valuable international and interstate networks for the good of our city,” Committee for Adelaide Chief Executive Officer Jodie van Deventer says.
“Adelaide is a networked city and when people arrive here without networks, it can take a long time until they feel a part of the community.
“Adelaide Abroad will make this transition easier with our team providing a ‘concierge-type service’, helping expats, skilled migrants, alumni and others to locate cultural groups, international chambers of commerce, professional bodies and more giving them the best start possible.”
As well as on-the-ground help, the program will create and share positive stories about the city, changing the narrative around South Australia and opening up new opportunities.
“Adelaide is transforming and telling these stories and connecting people is essential if we want our city to grow and transition, take full advantage of emerging economic opportunities,” Ms van Deventer said.
As part of the launch, the Committee also released a new video telling the stories of four skilled migrants who have come to Adelaide from The Netherlands, India and France taking up roles in space, defence and health.
The video – to become part of series profiling a range of industries – will be shown at conferences and events aligning with these industries as well as on social media.
Ms van Deventer said Adelaide Abroad would complement programs run by the South Australian Government such as the South Australian Club and Immigration SA as well as other community organisations.
