National advocacy for visa holders

This topic came up at our Sustainability for our People Working Group with participants expressing concern about about temporary visa holders and international students left without a safety net, many of whom are unable to go home or even receive money from overseas due to border and bank closures.

Some of our members, such as Boomerang International Education Services, have begun delivering food parcels to the most vulnerable.

We have written to relevant Federal and State Government Ministers and other key politicians as well as joining 120 other organisations with ads appearing in eastern states media.

It’s pleasing to see that the South Australian Government is playing its part, setting up $13.8 million fund to support international students. International education is South Australia’s number one export industry valued at more than $1.8 billion and the support we provide now will help rebuild it when the time is right.
