New member – Hutt St Centre

Welcoming new member Hutt St Centre as a Non-For-Profit member of the Committee for Adelaide.

Hutt St Centre has long served as a pivotal institution in Adelaide, providing essential services and unwavering support to individuals experiencing homelessness. Established as a place of connection and empowerment, the Centre is dedicated to assisting those who are vulnerable to rebuild their lives, rediscover their identities, and reconnect with loved ones.

The Centre’s approach to homelessness is encapsulated in the concept of “homefulness,” a term that reflects the sense of safety, control, and confidence that accompanies having a place to call home. This philosophy underpins all aspects of the Centre’s work.

Upon entering Hutt St Centre, individuals are immediately provided with basic necessities, such as access to showers, meals, and the opportunity to charge their phones. These immediate needs are met alongside a comprehensive suite of services, with over 20 visiting professionals offering support that includes medical check-ups, mental health care, and financial counselling.

Hutt St Centre also places a strong emphasis on long-term outcomes. The organisation actively connects people with housing solutions, educational opportunities, and employment pathways. This holistic approach aims to equip individuals with the skills and confidence required to permanently change their circumstances.

The Centre’s mission extends beyond direct service delivery. Hutt St Centre is committed to advocating for systemic change, ensuring that the broader societal issues contributing to homelessness are addressed. Through active advocacy, strategic fundraising, and a culture rooted in respect and dignity, Hutt St Centre strives to eliminate the injustices faced by those experiencing homelessness in Adelaide. The Centre’s work remains guided by a vision of a society where everyone has an equal opportunity to live a full and dignified life.

“For seventy years Hutt St Centre has played a critical role in the Adelaide community. Joining the Committee for Adelaide provides an opportunity for the Centre to continue being an advocate and supporter of those experiencing homelessness in our community,” Chris Burns CSC, CEO, Hutt St Centre.
