The Committee for Adelaide, in partnership with the University of Adelaide, were delighted to host international thought-leader, academic, author and advisor, Professor Göran Roos on 3 April 2025 for a stimulating roundtable discussion on macroeconomics, decarbonisation, innovation and defence.
Göran shared his key observations and recommendations for Adelaide, South Australia, drawing on his global insights and expertise in innovation management, government policy and industrial strategy.
Key take-aways included:
- We don’t learn from success; we learn from failures: Adelaide can learn from other countries and jurisdictions on a wide range of matters such as the energy transition, innovation, decision making and the setting of procurement standards to achieve shared objectives.
- Innovation – and quick decision-making – is fundamentally important. A quick ‘no’ is better than a slow ‘maybe’.
- Industry hubs and clusters can play an important role in fostering innovation and collaboration: SA ZERO, Adelaide’s first net zero cluster for public-private-academia collaboration, is a great example of an industry cluster that is helping to accelerate zero carbon and zero waste pathways.
- It’s important to have a long-term vision while finding synergy and addressing short-term and long-term challenges and opportunities.
- Demonstration projects are very important in showing what can be done and accelerating wide-spread implementation of new opportunities.
Professor Göran Roos is presenting a public lecture on ‘Accelerating Decarbonisation Through Industry Hubs: Lessons from Europe Experience’ this Monday 7 April at 11.30am at the University of Adelaide – to attend, register here.
