SA ZERO Workshop at Flinders Port Holdings

Flinders Port Holdings (FPH), one of the founding members of SA ZERO, welcomed the SA ZERO cluster members to their Port Adelaide offices for our bi-monthly member workshop in July. Marnie Hope, the Group Sustainability Manager at FPH, kicked things off with a comprehensive tour of the Flinders Adelaide Container Terminal. Observing one of their visiting container ships up close as it set sail back up the East Coast was truly impressive. Our members were reminded of the large scale of our global supply chains.

Back in the boardroom, Marnie shared the remarkable sustainability journey of FPH. From baselining emissions to setting science-based targets and funding initiatives under a robust climate action plan, FPH is at the forefront of sustainable practices in the maritime sector. Shipping is a cornerstone of South Australia’s international export market, responsible for over 90% of our global trade. However, it is also one of the hardest sectors to abate in terms of emissions, making FPH’s efforts particularly commendable.

Key Focus Areas and Future Plans

As part of the workshop, our group explored the top six key focus areas for the year and identified our short- and long-term actions to address them. These focus areas will be detailed in an upcoming report and will guide our events and activities in the months ahead.

One of the core strengths of SA ZERO is the peer-to-peer knowledge sharing that occurs within our cluster workshops. By bringing together some of the most impactful organizations in South Australia, alongside leaders from academia and state and local government, we are accelerating joint pathways to zero carbon and zero waste. Witnessing the ambition and action of one of our largest and most critical local businesses was truly inspiring and underscored the importance of collaboration in achieving our sustainability goals.
