South Australia’s strengths in space, defence and resources took centre stage at our The New Frontier event held on 8 September 2026.

A key theme was the power of space to help people look further and think bigger. When South Australia is kicking goals in globally important sectors, it builds confidence, raises ambition and inspires the next generation to see what is possible.

Our keynote speaker, Katherine Bennell-Pegg, Australia’s first astronaut trained under the Australian Space Agency and the 2026 Australian of the Year, shared an inspiring perspective on leadership, innovation and building Australia’s future STEM capability needed to support Australia’s future industries.

Katherine was joined by Flavia Tata Nardini, Chief Executive Office and Co-Founder, Fleet Space Technologies; Anna Wiley, Asset President Copper South Australia, BHP; and Andy Keough, Managing Director, SAAB Australia. As leaders in their respective industries, their organisations are driving innovation, employing highly skilled South Australians and creating career opportunities that will support our state’s workforce and economy well into the future.
