The Committee for Adelaide in partnership with Baukultur invites members to the next ADL2050 Vision Workshop, a series of workshops focused on Adelaide in 2050.
Density Done Better explores how increasing Central Adelaide’s residential population beyond current targets could transform the city into a more walkable, vibrant and connected urban centre.
Central Adelaide today houses approximately 26,000 residents, a density of 6,003 people per km², and is fundamentally car-dependent, with 4 in 5 journeys made by car and walkability 25% below the international peer-city average.
The Benchmarking Adelaide 2025 report, prepared for the Committee for Adelaide, provides direct international evidence, Adelaide currently ranks 14th among its 20 peer cities for Amenity, Vibrancy and Experience, and 15th for CBD population share.
This workshop will review the City of Adelaide’s current target of 50,000 CBD residents by 2034 and argue that while welcome, falls short of the population needed to deliver a genuinely walkable, transit-viable, 18-hour city.
The objectives of the workshop will be to:
- Articulate a vision for what Central Adelaide could and should be, building on the City of Adelaide’s City Plan – Adelaide 2036
- Create recommendations for policy changes to facilitate the transformation
- Develop a strategy and advocacy position to promote the vision to both the wider community and to government
Outcomes from this session will be embedded in the Committee for Adelaide’s 2050 Vision document, providing participants with a genuine opportunity for ongoing influence and engagement in shaping the future of the city.
We extend our sincere thanks to Baukultur for leading this session, Adelaide University for generously hosting, and JPE Design Studio, Hames Sharley, Arup and Woods Bagot for their ongoing support and contribution to the ADL2050 Vision Workshop series.
