In Conversation with Professor Nicola Phillips

The Committee for Adelaide was pleased to host in partnership with Adelaide University, an exclusive in-conversation event with Professor Nicola Phillips, reflecting on her first four months as Vice Chancellor of Adelaide University.

Facilitated by our Chief Executive Sam Dighton, the discussion brought together leaders from business, government and the community for a candid conversation about the opportunities and challenges involved in building a new university for South Australia.

Professor Phillips shared early reflections on the university’s establishment, including the shift from managing a large-scale merger to shaping a long-term strategic vision focused on research excellence, skills development, industry collaboration and student experience.

A strong theme throughout the discussion was the university’s commitment to access and equity, and the important role it can play in creating aspiration and opportunity for South Australians from all backgrounds. The conversation also highlighted the importance of deep industry engagement, with a focus on partnering with business to co-design research, innovation and workforce capability from the outset.

The event reinforced the significant opportunity Adelaide University has to help shape South Australia’s future economic growth, talent pipeline and global competitiveness. Thank you to all members and guests who joined us for this important discussion.
