Strong Australia Adelaide Business Luncheon and Panel Conversation

In partnership with Host Partner Business Council of Australia and Supporting Event Partners Adelaide Airport, Aurecon, Flinders Port Holdings and Office for Hydrogen Power SA, we hosted the Strong Australia Adelaide Business Luncheon on 16 August at SkyCity, which brought together the business community to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing Adelaide, South Australia.

Thank you to our panel which was expertly led by Laura Jayes from Sky News and included The Premier of South Australia, the Hon Peter Malinauskas MP, Rachel Yangoyan, Chief Executive Officer, Qantas Link, Bran Black, Chief Executive, Business Council of Australia and Sam Dighton, Chief Executive, Committee for Adelaide, who discussed how South Australia continues to ‘seize the moment’ in what is arguably the most transformative time in South Australia’s history.

Thank you also to Hentley Farm for supplying the wine selections on the day.

See below some key takeaways from the event:

  • South Australia is at a pivotal time in its history, with several key projects including the AUKUS submarine program, BHP’s Copper Strategy, the Hydrogen Power Station, and the Northern Water Project presenting enormous economic opportunities for the whole state.
  • Adelaide’s world-class events and festivals, including the iconic Adelaide Fringe, LIV Golf and Gather Round are attracting visitors from near and far, and play a critical role in positioning Adelaide on the world-stage.
  • Existing innovation hubs and world-class research institutions including the new Adelaide University provide an important platform for R&D and will help build future skills and workforce.
  • But there is work to do to seize the moment, particularly in the areas of labour productivity, housing affordability, inward migration, investment attraction, the responsible uptake of AI and speed of decision making.
  • These are challenges that can’t be solved by government alone. Industry, academia, and the wider community all have a critical role to play in embracing the opportunities before us and fostering innovation and investment.
  • With the right policy settings, continued ambition, and collaboration, we will herald in new era of prosperity for decades to come.
