As Adelaide continues to grow, our future prosperity depends on how we invest in, enhance and protect the assets that make our city distinct.
As part of our ADL2050 Vision series, Hames Sharley facilitated an interactive workshop exploring how Adelaide can collectively protect its character and competitive advantages while unlocking the economic, social and cultural opportunities they create for the state.
The workshop brought together leaders and thinkers from across sectors, beginning with a reflection on how Adelaideans viewed their city in the 1950s. Participants identified striking parallels with the Adelaide of today before turning their attention to the question: What makes Adelaide, Adelaide?
A clear theme emerged. Adelaide’s greatest strengths lie in its liveability, human scale and connectivity, qualities that continue to distinguish it from larger cities and underpin its appeal as a place to live, work, invest and visit. The discussion explored how these defining characteristics can be preserved as the city grows and demand for housing, infrastructure and development continues to increase.
Building on the momentum of the previous ADL2050 Vision workshops, Art and Creativity at the Centre of Everything and An Accessible and Connected City, the session generated valuable insights that will inform the Committee for Adelaide’s ADL2050 Vision. A key outcome will be the development of a focused set of priority actions to help shape a bold, long-term vision for Adelaide’s future.
The ADL2050 Vision Workshop Series brings together diverse perspectives to encourage ambitious, future-focused thinking about the opportunities and challenges that will define Adelaide’s next chapter.
The Committee for Adelaide extends its sincere thanks to Hames Sharley for generously hosting the session and supporting this important conversation about Adelaide’s future.
